Associated Press 1:30 p.m. CDT, July 7, 2011A South Dakota man who claims the killing of a 75-year-old nurse was part of a plot to kill President Barack Obama will remain in Madison for two weeks while he gets a mental examination.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/qArPwJ ) on Thursday that Dane County Court Commissioner Todd Meurer has ordered a competency examination for 41-year-old James McVay.
The exam will determine if McVay is competent to waive an extradition hearing and allow South Dakota officials to retrieve him.McVay is charged in South Dakota with killing Maybelle Schein in her home in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday. He was found driving her car near Madison on Saturday afternoon.
Prosecutors say McVay claims Schein's death was part of his plan to travel to Washington, D.C., to assassinate Obama.
