Jerusalem (CNN) -- Two Palestinians were killed and one wounded in an Israeli military strike in central Gaza, Palestinian medical sources reported Tuesday.
A statement from the Israel Defense Forces said an Israel Air Force aircraft had fired on militants preparing to launch rockets at Israeli territory. It said a hit was confirmed but did not give details of casualties.
The Palestinian medical sources said the incident occurred east of Deir el Balah.
Israel's Haaretz newspaper quoted Palestinian sources as saying the targeted group were from a radical Islamist faction that has challenged the Hamas movement which governs Gaza.
The IDF stated that three homemade rockets fired from Gaza had hit Israeli territory this week, and it said it would respond with "strength and determination" to any attempt to harm Israel.
In a separate incident Tuesday, the IDF said a military vehicle had been fired on in southern Gaza, slightly injuring the driver.
