OTTAWA (Reuters) - Strong September employment figures in Canada signal modest job creation and economic growth ahead, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said on Friday, but warned that global troubles are hurting the country.
The economy added a stunning 60,900 new jobs in the month and the jobless rate fell to 7.1 percent from 7.3 percent, a far bigger drop than expected.
"September's job growth shows Canada is on the right track for steady, modest job creation and economic growth. But too many Canadians are still looking for work and the fragile global recovery - especially in Europe and the United States - will continue to have an impact on Canada," Flaherty said in a statement.
